My advise is don't do what I did :P
I bought the Ikea Billy shelves as they would fit the space I had perfectly (Bestas were either too deep or too shallow). Picked up also the doors but I needed a sliding solution so I grabbed the Besta sliding rails thinking I can easily adapt them for the Billy. Well depends on how you define easy but I finally got them working with a few workarounds to get around the hurdles that Ikea had in place to make this kind of conversion harder.
- the way the rails are to be installed would make the Billy doors too short so I had to sacrifice a set of shelves and lay them on the lowest level to raise it and bridge the gap. Extending the door would have been difficult and uglier
- add cutouts in the aluminum rails as they are designed to fit Besta shelf width and not Billy. Acheived that easily with the Dremel
- I actually bought the long rails which was merely $5 more but came with an extra set of accessories for a second door 9vs buying two sets of short rails to get all the hardware and then pang $25 more ;))
- toughest part was to find the correct locations for the rail accessories to get the doors to roll smooth. I actually only got one door to move smooth. second door is kind of rocking forward a little (and I had to redo the position for each door to have the current results even)
- luckily I had some Jigooloo around and after spraying it into the track the motion was greatly improved to a point where I say the woman will not complain
- but my final take on this conversion is DON'T DO IT! :P
